Abstract
This paper considers lessons to be gleaned in preparation for a feared “massive earthquake of the future” from the results of questionnaire surveys of individuals living in areas afflicted by the recent disaster, the Tokyo metropolitan area, and throughout Japan that were conducted by Tohoku University’s Yoshida Laboratory. Results here cover activities on the day of the earthquake, health, impact on daily living (housing, income, human relationships, etc.), expectations for government, awareness of radiation, changes in thinking vis-à-vis disaster management, and the people most depended upon.
