Desde sus orígenes, la OIT se ha preocupado especialmente por regular las condiciones laborales y de vida de los trabajadores del mar. Su encomiable labor -nada menos que 71 instrumentos normativos- viene a culminarse con la adopción en 2006 del Convenio de Trabajo Marítimo. El presente artículo tiene por objeto analizar, concretamente, el contenido del Convenio 134 sobre prevención de accidentes (gente de mar) de 1970, así como abordar cuáles son las herramientas de precaución que han arraigado en nuestra normativa preventiva actual gracias al papel desempeñado por la OIT.
Since its beginning, the ILO has been especially concerned with regulating the working and living conditions of sea workers. His commendable work -no less than 71 normative instruments- comes to completion with the adoption in 2006 of the Maritime Labor Agreement. The purpose of this article is to analyze, specifically, the content of the Convention 134 on the prevention of accidents (seafarers) of 1970, as well as to address the precautionary tools that have taken root in our current preventive regulations thanks to the role played by the ILO.
